Running a Serve Experience with Your City Group
Life-Change
Serving is not something we do to check off a box, but rather a lifestyle to adopt. Our goal and prayer is that all people in a City Group have a life-changing serving experience—one that makes them want to keep serving until it’s an integral part of their lives. This is what the Serve Experience is meant to accomplish.
It is an experience where your group gets the opportunity to talk to, interact with, and listen to the stories of those we’re serving. Your listening ear may be the only one that person has had. It’s why you’re there.
The Serve Experience can be scheduled at any time throughout the semester. Here are a few different ways you can jump in and serve:
Option 1: Citylight Kids
Parents in our community need space to encounter the good news of Jesus on Sunday mornings, as well as an outlet for their kids to learn and grow spiritually. Your group could volunteer to have members rotate in and to help with our kids ministry for a month. And who knows, your group may just find they want to serve long term!

Option 2: Open Door Mission
Open Door Mission is a Gospel Rescue Mission whose vision is to break the cycle of homelessness and poverty. Their mission is to meet the needs of individuals and families while inspiring HOPE for lasting change.

Option 3: Global Friends
Global Friends is a community organization that exists to meet the physical, emotional, social, and spiritual needs of the international student community in Omaha. Global Friends seeks to promote cross-cultural friendships and understanding by providing meeting places and activities in multicultural settings between Americans and International students and scholars.

Debrief
Gather as a group at the end of your time of serving to pray and debrief your experience. What is God speaking to you about your life? About serving? About possible next steps? Share with the group.
Next Steps
Hopefully you’ll be asking how you can serve regularly after this serving experience. Most of the serving opportunities will have next steps presented at the end.
Flexibility
Serving can get messy and unexpected things will happen. Please be flexible and remember we are there to serve, so be ready and willing to do whatever is asked of us that day. It’s all part of the adventure!
