Praying the Scriptures

Having a hard time reading the Bible and staying focused or interested?

Try praying the Bible using the TACOS Method. You can do this alone or with others!

(Thanksgiving, Adoration, Confession, Others, Self)

THANKSGIVING

“Father, thank you for…”

ADORATION

“God, I love you because…”

CONFESSION

“Father, please forgive me for…”

OTHERS

“Father, I pray for [name] that you would…”

SELF

“Father, please help me…”

  1. Start by picking a chapter of Scripture to pray through—here are some recommended books (epistles are a great option!):

-Ephesians, Galatians, Psalms, Philippians, Colossians, James, 1 Peter, 2 Peter,

  1. Begin by reading a couple of verses or until you feel led to stop and pray. Consider Ephesians 1:1-2: “Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, To the saints who are in Ephesus, and are faithful in Christ Jesus: Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.”

  2. Pray in response to the verse(s) using one of the topics above.

  3. Your prayer could sound like this, “Father, thank you that through Jesus, you give us grace and peace. God, I love you because you call me a saint even though I fail you”.

  4. Keep praying anything that comes to mind as the Holy Spirit leads you. Continue to read and pray (or let someone else go) by picking up with the next verse until you’ve read and prayed through the whole chapter.
